On Thursday, the region’s governor said flooding from the Kakhovka dam breach has affected nearly 600 square kilometres on the Ukrainian-held right bank of the Dnipro River and the Russian-held left bank.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Kherson region governor stated, “The average level of flooding is 5.61 metres. 600 square kilometres of the Kherson region are underwater, of which 32 per cent is the right bank and 68 per cent is the left bank”.
Prokudin further said, “Despite the danger and heavy Russian shelling, the evacuation from the flooded area continues”.
Prokudin described the situation in Russian-held territory as ‘extremely difficult’.
Ukraine’s state emergency service reported that 1,995 individuals, including 103 children had been evacuated from flooded areas.
Many more have left on their own.
According to the state emergency service, a total of 20 settlements and 2,629 houses were flooded on the Ukrainian side of the river.
