On Monday, the Ukrainian army declared that it had “successfully hit” a portion of the Russian air defence system situated in the seized Crimea during the night.
Since Ukraine began a counteroffensive against Russian soldiers earlier this summer, Kyiv has escalated its attacks on the Black Sea peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014.
The army’s strategic communications section posted on social media, saying, “The Armed Forces successfully hit a strategic object of the air defence system on the western coast of occupied Crimea.”
Both Russia and the statement provided no additional information.

However, the powerful and near-the-Russian army Rybar Telegram channel also announced a “combined attack” by Kyiv on Crimea.
It was claimed that two US ATACMS missiles fired by Ukraine fell close to the Crimean peninsula’s western settlement of Olenivka.
The missiles were not downed by Russian forces, according to Rybar, “but thanks to measures taken earlier there was no serious damage.”
Three Ukrainian military drones were allegedly discovered “half an hour later” by Black Sea Fleet sailors close to Sevastopol, according to the social media account.

According to Rybar, two of them attempted to enter the Bay of Khersones but were shot at and sunk by Russian forces; the other one was reportedly “destroyed”.
Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in Crimea has consistently been the target of Ukraine.
Kyiv claimed to have struck a symbolic army headquarters in Sevastopol in September.
