The United Kingdom condemned the security breach involving External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. A pro-Khalistan protester broke past a barrier and ran toward his motorcade outside Chatham House in London.
A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) spokesperson called such actions unacceptable. The UK government reaffirmed its commitment to diplomatic security. The Metropolitan Police acted quickly to control the situation.
The incident occurred on Jaishankar’s second day in the UK. Pro-Khalistan protesters gathered across the street from Chatham House, waving yellow flags and shouting slogans.
As Jaishankar exited the building, a man holding an Indian flag broke through the police barrier. He ran toward the motorcade, blocked the vehicle, and tore the Indian flag. Police restrained him and removed him from the scene.
The UK government stated it supports peaceful protests but will not tolerate threats to diplomatic security.
India condemned the security breach and demanded stronger security for its diplomats. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal criticized the actions of pro-Khalistan elements.
“We condemn the provocative activities of this small group of separatists and extremists,” Jaiswal said.
India urged the UK to uphold its diplomatic obligations. The incident raised concerns about the safety of Indian officials abroad. India expects the UK to take stricter security measures to prevent future breaches.
