Turkey: In Another Major Aftershock 5.6 Magnitude Quake Hits Again

 Another quake in the quake-torn Turkey with a magnitude of 5.6 hit the eastern part of the country, killing at least one person and leaving dozens wounded. The earthquake caused a few damaged buildings to collapse too.

As per the authorities, in a factory collapse due to the equate at least one person dead in the region which is still reeling from previous devastation. Rescue and search operations are continuing following the quake of 5.6 of magnitude hits Turkey’s Malatya province.

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake has hit eastern Turkey, killing at least one person and wounding dozens while causing some damaged buildings to collapse.

As the latest major tremor, Monday’s earthquake rocked southern Turkey while the region was rebuilding itself from earlier massive earthquakes that killed more than fifty thousand people across northwest Syria and southern Turkey.

The town of Yesilyurt in Malatya province was the epicenter of the latest quake. Turkey’s disaster management agency (AFAD) says a factory collapsed in Kahramanmaras due to the quake, leaving one person dead. Earlier a quake of 7.8 magnitudes had hit the region twenty-one days ago on February 6, leaving 69 people injured.

Via the HaberTurk television, Yesilyurt city Mayor Mehmet Cinar told that a number of buildings have collapsed in the town which included a 40-storied skyscraper where a daughter and father were trapped. The Mayor told that the pair had entered the damaged building for collecting their belongings.

The TV images showed the man being carried out of the building on a stretcher into an ambulance. At the same time inside the damaged building, the rescue teams were trying to contact his daughter.

Media reports also say that the quake was also felt by people living in temporary camps who had already been displaced by the earlier quakes.

Significantly, around ten thousand aftershocks have been so far reported in the last three weeks since February 6, as per the AFAD.
