US President Donald Trump has revised his earlier timeline, stating that Moscow now has just 10 days to end its conflict with Ukraine, significantly shortening the 50-day window he had announced two weeks ago.
Speaking to reporters aboard his return flight to Washington after a visit to Scotland, Trump declared, “Russia has 10 days from today” to agree to a ceasefire. Failing that, he warned, “We’re going to put on tariffs and stuff.”
Back on 14 July, Trump had initially threatened Russia with ‘severe tariffs’ if it did not comply with a ceasefire agreement within 50 days.
However, following a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday, Trump expressed frustration with Moscow’s stance and adjusted the deadline to ’10 or 12 days’.
The Kremlin responded to Trump’s remarks by acknowledging the statement but confirmed that its military campaign in Ukraine would continue.
According to China’s Xinhua news agency, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday, “The special military operation continues.”
He also noted, “We also remain committed to the peace process to resolve the conflict around Ukraine and to ensuring our interests in the course of this settlement.”
Meanwhile, hostilities persist in Ukraine. Russian drone and missile attacks targeted the north-eastern Sumy region on Sunday, injuring four people.
Russian officials also reported the interception of 150 Ukrainian drones. One person was killed and three others were wounded in incidents near St Petersburg.
