US President Donald Trump has said that Iran is seeking a deal with Washington, even as it hesitates to acknowledge this publicly, while asserting that recent US actions have delivered significant strategic gains.
Speaking at a House Republican dinner, Trump stated that sustained pressure from the United States has pushed Iran towards negotiations. He remarked that Tehran is keen to reach an agreement but remains reluctant to admit it openly.
“They are negotiating, and they want to make a deal badly, but they are afraid to say it,” Trump said, suggesting that Iranian leaders may fear internal repercussions for pursuing diplomacy.
The US President also highlighted what he described as decisive US military actions, claiming that American forces had significantly weakened Iran’s capabilities. He pointed to strikes on key installations, including sites linked to Iran’s nuclear programme, and asserted that these actions had disrupted its progress.
According to Trump, such measures played a critical role in preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons within a short timeframe. He described the outcome as a strategic success, stating that US intervention effectively curtailed further escalation.
Reiterating his stance, Trump emphasised that halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions remains central to US policy. He defended his earlier decision to withdraw from the previous nuclear agreement, arguing that it prevented Iran from advancing its programme further.
Trump said talks are ongoing despite no public confirmation from Tehran, but offered no details.
The United States continues to prioritise preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons through sanctions, diplomacy, and deterrence.
