United States President Donald Trump returned from the Middle East Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. He asserted that he is often asked to help resolve international disputes.
“I get along with the tough ones, I don’t get along with the weak ones,” he remarked confidently.
Addressing the journalists aboard Air Force One, Trump reflected on his rapport with world leaders and his involvement in easing global tensions.
Referring to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he said, “Erdogan’s been great with me. You know, when NATO has a problem with Erdogan, which they often do, they call me to talk to. And I never failed at working immediately.”
Turning to the Israel–Hamas conflict, Trump stated, “We are talking about rebuilding Gaza; not talking about single state, double state, or two-state; we did it the right way, and our timing was perfect,” emphasising the US-led initiative aimed at restoring stability in the region.
At the summit, Trump also extended praise to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as ‘a very good friend’.
He further added, “India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top, and he has just done a fantastic job.”
His comments followed a recent telephone conversation with Prime Minister Modi. During the call, PM Modi congratulated Trump on the success of what he termed the ‘historic Gaza peace plan’.
Four principal mediators formally signed the Gaza ceasefire agreement in Egypt:
- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi,
- US President Donald Trump,
- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and
- Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani
Significantly, representatives from Israel and Hamas were not present during the signing ceremony.
The summit, co-chaired by Egypt and the United States, drew participation from over 20 countries. In addition, several senior figures from regional and international organisations also took part.
Opening the summit, President Sisi noted, “I welcome you all to the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit, at this momentous and pivotal historical juncture, in which we have together witnessed the conclusion of the Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement to end the war in Gaza.”
