Trump Faces Critical Legal Deadlines: Bond Reduced in NY Fraud Case, Hush Money Trial Set for April 15

On March 25th, former President Donald Trump faced significant legal challenges, including a deadline to address a $454 million civil fraud judgment and a court appearance in New York to request a delay or dismissal of the hush money trial. Despite winning an appeal to reduce his bond related to the New York fraud case, Judge Juan Merchan set a trial date of April 15th for the hush money case. A New York appeals court subsequently lowered Trump’s bond requirement to delay the enforcement of the $454 million fraud judgment to $175 million, granting him an additional 10 days to fulfill the new amount.

Trump was fined more than $464 million, including interest, after Judge Arthur Engoron concluded that he and his co-defendants illegally exaggerated the value of their properties in order to obtain significant loans.

Temporarily, the ruling prevents New York Attorney General Letitia James from seizing Trump’s assets to enforce the judgment against him. In response to advancements in two legal proceedings, Trump utilized his Truth Social platform and conducted a press briefing to communicate with both his supporters and his adversary, Joe Biden.

He slammed the hush money case against him as a “pure case of voter intimidation and election interference.”

The Republican nominee for president strongly criticized the jury’s decision not to postpone the hush money trial, labeling it as “election interference” orchestrated by “Biden and his allies” to undermine him.

“This was a case that could have been brought three-and-a-half years ago and they decided to wait now, just during the election, so that I won’t be able to campaign,” Trump said while speaking to reporters.

Speaking to the press at his property on 40 Wall Street in New York, Trump asserted that the hush money trial against him is being expedited, emphasizing that there should be “no trial” conducted during elections.

“You have a case which … they’re dying to get this thing started. The judge cannot go faster. He wants to get it started so badly,” he said.

Trump, however, added that he would have “no problem” testifying in upcoming trial scheduled to start next month. “I would have no problem testifying. I didn’t do anything wrong.”

He was then questioned if he had any worries that a conviction would harm his presidential candidacy.

Trump responded that it may “make me more popular because the people know it’s a scam”. “It’s a Biden trial.”
