US President Donald Trump said Iran had suffered devastating military losses and warned that Tehran must agree to a deal or face additional action from Washington.
Addressing reporters at the White House before boarding Marine One, Trump said the US would not allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons, describing it as the central issue behind the ongoing confrontation.
Trump claimed that Iran had effectively lost its naval and air capabilities. He claimed the blockade surrounding the country was ‘100 per cent effective’ and said oil shipments would resume at scale once hostilities ended.
The President predicted that global crude prices would decline sharply after the conflict, adding that stock markets could climb further once uncertainty eased. He also argued that recent inflation concerns linked to the crisis would prove temporary.
Before the escalation, inflation in the US had been running at 1.7 per cent, Trump said, dismissing criticism that the conflict had severely damaged the American economy.
During the interaction, Trump suggested China could potentially help bring Iran back to negotiations, though he added that Washington did not require outside assistance to handle Tehran. He further stated that Iran had already been defeated militarily and said the country would either ‘do the right thing’ or face stronger action.
The US President also praised Pakistan’s leadership, saying the country’s field marshal and prime minister had been ‘absolutely great’, though he did not provide further details.
Trump additionally criticised NATO, claiming the alliance had failed to support the US in the past and asserting that America did not need NATO.
The remarks came as tensions in West Asia continued to disrupt energy markets, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.
