Political leaders in North America extended warm greetings to Hindu communities celebrating Holi, the vibrant festival that symbolises the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil.
Several state leaders joined Donald Trump and Mark Carney in recognising the significance of Holi, which millions of people around the world celebrate with colours, music, cultural gatherings, and festive meals.
Their messages highlighted the cultural importance of Holi and acknowledged the contributions of Hindu communities in the United States and Canada.
In a statement released by the White House, President Trump conveyed his best wishes to those celebrating the occasion. He said that he and Melania hoped the festival would bring hope, peace, and unity to everyone observing it while celebrating the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil.
Several American state leaders also marked the occasion by extending greetings to Hindu communities in their respective states.
Gavin Newsom described Holi as a celebration of peace and joy that accompanies the arrival of spring, wishing the Hindu community happiness, harmony, and festive celebrations.
Similarly, Wes Moore highlighted the festival’s themes of renewal and togetherness, expressing hope that its spirit would spread across communities and inspire unity and optimism.
In Canada, Mark Carney extended Holi greetings, calling the festival a celebration of renewal, forgiveness, and community. He also noted that he recently experienced Holi celebrations during a visit to Mumbai.
Holi is widely celebrated worldwide, with events in the United States growing in recent years as the Indian American community expands and universities and civic groups host large public celebrations.
