Tripura’s Famed Weekly Mart Along Bangladesh Border Back After 3 Yrs

One of the two line haats or week-by-week exchange stores along the Bangladesh line in Srinagar under the South Tripura region of Tripura at long last resumed for guests, sellers and buyers on Tuesday after over three years, after it was suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

The local communities of the Indian side of South Tripura’s Sabroom subdivision and the Bangladeshi side of Bangladesh’s Feni district benefit from the economic and cultural exchange at this particular border trade point.

On its return, the market was visited by thousands of people from Bangladesh and other parts of Tripura. “More than three years have passed since the market was closed,” District Magistrate South Tripura District Saju Waheed stated in an interview with EastMojo. I’ve been here for two years, and several meetings between stakeholders and Border Haat Management Committees have led to the return of trade.

On Tuesday, the mart received registrations from a total of 1,200 vendors. Every one of the old sellers who had gotten ID cards as an endorsement to carry on with work in this unique site had been permitted to set up their shops in the sheds,” Waheed said.

As they were unable to conduct business for three years, most vendors’ identification cards expired. The matter was brought up in the last Boundary of The executive’s Board meeting, where individuals collectively consented to augmentation of the legitimacy of the ID cards.
The DM continued, “Consequently, fresh cards with extended validity had been provided to all vendors.”

The Srinagar border haat is one of a kind because it has fresh fish. The greater part of individuals come here to purchase new fish that comes from Bangladesh. The District Magistrate stated, “This is the most important part of this mart.”
