US President Donald Trump has vowed that Iran will never acquire a nuclear weapon, claiming American military operations have destroyed the country’s nuclear weapons capability and prevented it from rebuilding the programme.

Addressing a Republican election rally at Northern Kentucky University’s Truist Arena on Saturday, Trump defended his decision to launch military operations against Tehran. He argued that the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran had made American intervention necessary.

“They cannot have a nuclear weapon. They can’t because they’ll use it,” Trump told supporters.

The President said US forces had struck Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and emphasised that his administration would prevent Tehran from reviving the programme.

“We have to make sure it doesn’t come back,” he said, recalling instructions he had given senior administration officials during the operation.

Trump presented the military campaign as a major achievement of his second presidency, linking it to his broader argument that the United States had restored its military strength and willingness to confront security threats.

The US President acknowledged that the operation had diverted American resources and attention towards the Middle East. He argued that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons outweighed potential short-term economic consequences.

The President predicted that energy prices would fall after the campaign concluded.

“It’s gonna end very quickly,” Trump said, adding that petrol prices would drop below their previous levels once the operation ended.

Returning to the issue later in his speech, Trump declared, “Iran won’t have, doesn’t have, and never will have a nuclear weapon, very simple.”

The US President argued that previous US administrations should have addressed the issue years earlier, adding, “Should have been done years ago.”

Trump referred to other foreign policy initiatives involving Venezuela and Greenland while highlighting increased defence spending.
