A horrific mass shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia has left ten people dead, including the gunman, with several others injured. Police continue to investigate the incident while providing support to the affected community.

Authorities confirmed that six individuals were found dead inside the school. Another victim succumbed to injuries while being transported to the hospital.

Police reported that the suspected shooter died from what was described as a ‘self-inflicted injury’. Two additional fatalities occurred at a nearby residence linked to the incident. All injured persons received first aid at the scene before being transferred to the hospital for further treatment.

Investigation Under Way; Motive Unknown

RCMP Chief Superintendent Ken Floyd stated that the shootings at the school and the nearby residence were connected. However, authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the attack.

Two seriously injured victims were airlifted to the hospital, while others received treatment at local medical facilities. Details regarding the suspect’s identity and background have not been released.

Although the active shooter alert has been lifted, the investigation remains ongoing.

Leaders Express Grief and Condolences

Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was ‘devastated’ by the ‘terrible acts of violence’, expressing his prayers and deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

MLA Larry Neufeld also conveyed deep sympathy for those affected.

In a post on X, he stated that he was closely monitoring the situation and thanked first responders, school staff and local officials for their swift and professional response during an exceptionally difficult time.

British Columbia Premier David Eby described the shootings as an ‘unimaginable tragedy’. He pledged that the provincial government would provide all possible assistance to the affected residents.

Tumbler Ridge, a small mining town with a population of around 2,400, is grappling with the aftermath of the attack as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
