Sure This Visit Will Boost Bilateral Linkages, Says PM Modi After Landing Amman

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Amman on Monday. He said his visit to Jordan would boost bilateral linkages between the two nations.

Expressing his appreciation, he thanked Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan for the warm welcome extended to him at the airport.

Posting on X, PM Modi said, “Landed in Amman. Thankful to Mr. Jafar Hassan, Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for the warm welcome at the airport. I am sure this visit will boost bilateral linkages between our nations.”

In a special gesture, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan personally received PM Modi at the airport.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is undertaking the visit at the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. The visit marks a significant moment in India–Jordan relations. It is the first full-fledged bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Jordan in 37 years.

75 years of Diplomatic Relations

Coinciding with a major milestone, the visit also marks an important occasion. It marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan.

“This historic visit will mark 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries. During my visit, I will hold detailed discussions with His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, H.E. Mr. Jafar Hassan, Prime Minister of Jordan, and will also look forward to engagements with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. In Amman, I will also meet the vibrant Indian community who have made significant contributions to India–Jordan relations,” PM Modi said in his departure statement, earlier in the day.

Notably, this is PM Modi’s first full bilateral visit to Jordan. He had earlier transited through the country in February 2018.

Economically, India is Jordan’s third-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade valued at USD 2.8 billion. Additionally, Jordan serves as a major supplier of fertilisers to India, including phosphates and potash.

It also hosts the Jordan India Fertilizer Company, a joint venture valued at USD 860 million.

Looking ahead, PM Modi’s visit is expected to further consolidate India-Jordan relations and reinforce cooperation in trade, investment, security, and counter-terrorism.

Overall, the engagement underscores India’s commitment to strengthening partnerships in the Middle East while promoting peace, stability, and shared prosperity in the region.
