PM Modi Touches Down In Amman; Receives State Welcome From Jordan PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Amman on December 15, 2025, marking the start of a high-stakes three-nation diplomatic tour that underscores India’s growing geopolitical ambitions in West Asia and Africa. As PM Modi descended the aircraft stairs onto a ceremonial red carpet, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan received him with full state honours, setting a formal and symbolic tone for the visit.

The arrival marked the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Jordan in more than four decades and coincided with 75 years of diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Amman. The visual optics of the welcome, complete with a guard of honour, national flags, and traditional Jordanian protocol, reflected the renewed momentum in bilateral ties.

Shortly after landing, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the warm reception in a public message, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Hassan and reaffirming his confidence that the visit would deepen cooperation between the two nations. He emphasised that India and Jordan share common interests in peace, stability, and development across a volatile region.

The Amman stop serves as the opening chapter of PM Modi’s four-day tour that will also take him to Ethiopia and Oman. Together, the itinerary reflects India’s calibrated outreach to key partners across West Asia, the Horn of Africa, and the Gulf, regions that play a critical role in India’s energy security, trade routes, and diaspora engagement.

Diplomacy Trade Energy Focus

In Jordan, discussions are expected to move beyond traditional diplomatic exchanges and focus sharply on trade expansion, defence collaboration, and energy partnerships.

Indian officials see Jordan as a stable and trusted partner in the Middle East, while Amman views New Delhi as a rising global power with economic and technological strengths.

Security cooperation and regional stability form another pillar of the engagement. Both countries have consistently supported dialogue-driven solutions to regional conflicts and share concerns over extremism and instability.

The visit is expected to reinforce coordination on counter-terrorism and defence training, while also exploring avenues for joint industrial and technological projects.

The optics of PM Modi inspecting the guard of honour alongside Prime Minister Hassan carried deeper significance. They symbolised continuity, mutual respect, and a forward-looking partnership at a time when global alignments are shifting rapidly.

As India seeks to balance relations across competing global blocs, the Jordan visit reinforces New Delhi’s message of strategic autonomy and multi-alignment. By reviving high-level engagement after decades, PM Modi has positioned India as an active stakeholder in West Asia’s evolving political and economic landscape.

With Ethiopia and Oman next on the agenda, the Amman visit sets the tone for a tour designed to blend diplomacy with hard strategic interests, signalling that India intends to play a more assertive and confident role on the global stage.
