Iran has stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, with navigation continuing despite ongoing regional tensions.
The country’s Foreign Ministry said it is taking necessary measures to ensure maritime safety under prevailing wartime conditions.
In a detailed statement issued amid heightened tensions involving the United States and Israel, Iran reiterated its long-standing commitment to the principles of freedom of navigation and maritime security.
It noted that the country has consistently worked to uphold these norms, even during periods of instability.
However, the ministry warned that recent military actions by the United States and Israel have created a highly volatile and dangerous situation in the Gulf region.
According to the statement, these developments have directly impacted the safety and security of shipping routes passing through the strategic waterway.
Asserting its legitimate right to self-defence, Iran said it has targeted US military bases and facilities across the region.
At the same time, it has implemented measures to prevent what it described as “aggressors” and their supporters from using the strait to further hostile objectives against the country.
The ministry added that vessels linked to nations involved in the conflict have been restricted in accordance with international law.
Meanwhile, ships belonging to non-hostile countries can continue to pass safely through the strait, provided they coordinate with Iranian authorities and adhere to announced safety protocols.
Iran stressed that lasting stability in the region depends on ending military aggression and respecting its sovereignty and national interests.
The tensions follow joint strikes on Tehran and other cities, which prompted Iran to launch retaliatory missile and drone attacks on key targets.
