Members of the Dawoodi Bohra community in Sri Lanka gathered at the Husaini Masjid in Bambalapitiya on Wednesday to hold special prayers for the Prime Minister on his 75th birthday.
They wished him good health, a long life, and continued success in serving the nation.
The Husaini Masjid, the largest Bohra mosque in Sri Lanka, has often been a centre for the community to acknowledge the Prime Minister’s close association with Dawoodi Bohras worldwide.
In his interactions with them in India and abroad, the Prime Minister has often recalled this connection, saying, “When I go somewhere not only in the country but also abroad, my Bohra brothers and sisters definitely come to meet me”
Earlier this year, a Bohra delegation met the Prime Minister at his residence in New Delhi.
The group, which included doctors, entrepreneurs, educators, and professionals, expressed gratitude for the Waqf Amendment Act, highlighting how it helped safeguard their properties.
The Prime Minister, in turn, praised the community’s long-standing focus on social welfare and acknowledged the contributions of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin in refining the details of the legislation, according to the PMO.
“He also brought out the special contribution of the community towards bringing about the Act. He said when work towards bringing about the Waqf Amendment Act started, one of the first people he discussed this with was Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, who was instrumental in giving detailed comments about various nitty-gritties of the Act,” the PMO asserted.
Meanwhile, the Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka, which has previously organised ceremonies on the Prime Minister’s birthday, is also set to convene a special gathering of monks on Wednesday to mark the occasion.
