Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India later this week for the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. He will hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, September 11, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.
Speaking to Indian media during a virtual briefing from Moscow, Peskov said PM Modi and Putin will review bilateral relations and major international developments.
Putin will brief PM Modi on the latest situation in the Ukraine conflict.
Peskov described ties between the two leaders as close and pragmatic. He said they address sensitive global and bilateral matters through open and constructive dialogue.
India, as BRICS Chair 2026, will host the summit on September 12-13. Leaders from BRICS member and partner countries, along with outreach invitees, will attend.
The Ministry of External Affairs said discussions will focus on strengthening intra-BRICS cooperation and global and regional priorities.
Peskov said Russia welcomes Indian companies seeking to expand investments across the Russian economy. He added that PM Modi and Putin will review trade, economic cooperation and key international projects in transportation.
The Kremlin spokesperson highlighted the global economic fallout from instability in West Asia. He said disruptions have affected oil and liquefied natural gas supplies, creating wider economic pressures.
Putin and Prime Minister Modi will exchange views on international affairs, energy markets and transport projects.
Peskov said some cooperation matters require discreet discussions because certain countries seek to obstruct bilateral progress.
Last month, PM Modi and Putin met on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. They later travelled together to the World Nomad Games opening ceremony.
The leaders displayed similar camaraderie during the SCO Summit in Tianjin, China, last September, when they travelled together to their bilateral meeting.
