Putin Says He Looks Forward To Meeting PM Modi Soon

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he looks forward to meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon. He made the remarks during External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s meeting with him in Moscow on Monday.

Jaishankar conveyed PM Modi’s greetings to Putin.

The Russian President said Jaishankar’s visit reflected the strong ties India and Russia have built over decades. He noted that both countries cooperate across government, parliamentary and economic spheres.

Putin welcomed the rise in bilateral trade this year. He credited Prime Minister Modi’s personal attention to strengthening Russian-Indian relations. He further asked Jaishankar to convey his best wishes to PM Modi.

Putin said he expects to meet PM Modi soon under the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation framework. He added that their schedules could allow another meeting later this year.

Russian President said Jaishankar and Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov had already discussed key issues. These include energy, fertiliser supplies, nuclear power and high-technology cooperation.

Putin said Russia would continue increasing fertiliser supplies for Indian farmers.

Jaishankar said PM Modi eagerly anticipates meeting Putin at the SCO Summit. He expressed hope that Putin would visit India for the BRICS Summit. He described the bilateral relationship as strong and robust.

Jaishankar said economic cooperation had grown significantly. He referred to progress in trade, nuclear energy and fertilisers after the intergovernmental commission meeting.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Manturov, Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar and other officials attended the meeting.

Jaishankar is visiting Moscow on August 23 and 24 to co-chair the 27th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission meeting.
