Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored with Guyana’s highest civilian distinction, ‘The Order of Excellence,’ by President Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Thursday. The prestigious award recognizes Modi’s visionary leadership, his advocacy for developing countries on the global stage, and his exceptional contributions to global peace and the strengthening of India-Guyana relations.

PM Modi Dedicates The Honor To India And Bilateral Relations

During the award ceremony at the State House in Georgetown, Prime Minister Modi expressed his deep gratitude and dedicated the honor to the people of India. He emphasized the strong historical ties between India and Guyana, highlighting that the award symbolizes the enduring friendship between the two nations. “This state visit is a testament to India’s commitment to deepening our relationship with Guyana,” Modi said.

A Rare Honor For Foreign Leaders

Prime Minister Modi is only the fourth foreign leader to receive The Order of Excellence, further underscoring the significance of this recognition. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal celebrated the occasion, describing it as “another feather in the cap for India.” He added that the award acknowledges Modi’s exceptional statesmanship and his efforts in strengthening India-Guyana ties.

Guyana’s Commitment To Technological Cooperation

In his address, Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali spoke about the transformative potential of technology, innovation, and digitization. He stressed that these advancements must serve to reduce global inequalities and help combat poverty, bringing nations closer together. “India has been championing new technology innovation, and PM Modi has reminded us in CARICOM that we are part of a shared family,” President Ali stated.

Strengthening Cooperation Between Two Democracies

Prime Minister Modi reciprocated the sentiment, praising President Irfaan Ali’s pivotal role in advancing bilateral relations to unprecedented levels. Modi expressed India’s readiness to work alongside Guyana in a spirit of cooperation. “Our partnership as two democracies is crucial for strengthening our bilateral ties and for the broader Global South,” he affirmed.

Shared Cultural Heritage And Natural Resources

During his acceptance speech, Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the cultural and natural ties that link India and Guyana. He compared Guyana, often called “The Land of Many Waters,” with India, which is home to the Ganga, Yamuna, and Brahmaputra rivers symbols of India’s ancient civilization. Modi drew attention to the shared reverence for rivers in both countries, emphasizing the deep cultural connection between their people.
