Prime Minister Modi Conferred Ghana’s Highest National Honour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the ‘Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’, the country’s highest civilian honour, by Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama during his state visit on July 3.

The award recognises PM Modi’s distinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership.

PM Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his gratitude, stating, “Honoured to be conferred with ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’.”

He dedicated this accolade to the 1.4 billion people of India and the enduring India-Ghana relationship, underscoring the deep and longstanding ties between the two nations.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also shared the significance of the award on social media, noting it was a testament to the exceptional bond shared by India and Ghana.

India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, echoed these sentiments.

He called the award a recognition of PM Modi’s efforts to strengthen the Global South’s voice.

EAM Jaishankar added that it reflects the close cooperation and friendship between India and Ghana.

Symbol of strengthened bilateral relations

In an official statement, the MEA said PM Modi accepted the honour on behalf of India’s youth and culture.

PM Modi thanked the people and government of Ghana for the recognition.

The Prime Minister also highlighted shared democratic values that continue to strengthen bilateral ties.

PM Modi said the award deepens friendship and adds responsibility to boost India-Ghana relations.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that his historic visit—the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over three decades—would impart fresh momentum to the partnership.

Earlier during the visit, PM Modi held extensive talks with President Mahama.

Both leaders agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a comprehensive partnership, expanding cooperation across key sectors such as trade, investment, agriculture, digital technology, infrastructure, and people-to-people connections.

The Prime Minister’s visit marks the first leg of a five-nation tour and underscores India’s commitment to deepening ties with Ghana, a valued partner in the Global South.

PM Modi’s receipt of Ghana’s highest honour reflects the respect he has earned globally.

His efforts promote sustainable development, global peace, and stronger South-South cooperation.

This milestone visit and the enhanced partnership promise to foster greater collaboration and prosperity for both nations in the years to come.
