Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday wrote an open letter to the American people, asserting that ordinary Iranians hold no hostility toward them despite ongoing tensions with the US and Israel. He accused the US administration of waging conflict on Iran as a ‘proxy for Israel’, stressing that global powers have long attempted to influence the country through military and political pressure.
Pezeshkian emphasised that Iran has historically avoided aggression, expansion, or domination, even when subjected to occupation or foreign interventions. He criticised narratives framing Iran as a threat, calling them manufactured by Israel to divert attention from its actions against Palestinians.
The Iranian President drew attention to the US military presence and bases surrounding Iran, arguing that such deployments create a real threat to regional stability. He condemned potential attacks on Iran’s infrastructure, saying targeting energy facilities constitutes ‘war crimes’ with consequences extending beyond Iran’s borders.
Pezeshkian also challenged the US’s foreign policy priorities, asking whether ‘America First’ remains a genuine objective, and warned that the world stands at a crossroads between confrontation and engagement.
The Iranian President recounted recent escalations, including joint Israel–US strikes on Iranian cities that killed senior leaders and civilians, followed by Iranian missile and drone responses targeting bases and assets in the Middle East.
The letter reflects a push by Masoud Pezeshkian to highlight the distinction between the Iranian government’s adversaries and the Iranian people, promoting dialogue while condemning aggression.
