PM Robert Fico Calls PM Modi's 12-Year Tenure A ‘Political Miracle’

Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico on Monday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest continuously serving democratically elected Prime Minister. He described the milestone as a ‘political miracle’ during a joint press meet in Bratislava after bilateral talks.

PM Fico praised PM Modi’s leadership and said India had emerged as a leading power under his tenure. He said he could not ignore the political stability that Prime Minister Modi represents in India.

“I cannot omit the political stability which you represent, Mr Prime Minister in India. I congratulate you to the fact that you are the longest serving Prime Minister in India,” PM Fico said.

Slovakia’s Prime Minister added that serving continuously for 12 years in a complex political environment with many parties was ‘like a political miracle’ and congratulated PM Modi for that achievement.

The congratulatory remarks followed similar praise from French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday.

Macron congratulated Prime Minister Modi for becoming India’s longest-serving Prime Minister since Independence while inaugurating Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice. He said PM Modi’s presence honoured France and reflected his determination and India’s strength.

PM Modi is on a State Visit to the Slovak Republic at PM Fico’s invitation. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since the country’s independence in 1993.

In Bratislava, PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome at the historic castle. He then held delegation-level and one-on-one meetings with PM Fico.

During the visit, PM Modi will also meet Slovak business leaders to deepen economic engagement and expand cooperation in transportation, renewable energy, emerging technology and defence production. He will also hold talks with President Peter Pellegrini, who will host a state banquet in his honour.

The Ministry of External Affairs said India and Slovakia share warm ties across trade, investment, defence, space, nuclear energy, digitalisation, cybersecurity, skill development, and cultural exchange.
