Prime Minister Narendra Modi met European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Gothenburg on Sunday, reaffirming the growing strength of India-Europe relations following the recently concluded India-European Union Free Trade Agreement.

Prime Minister Modi described the discussions as productive and expressed agreement with Ursula von der Leyen on the immense potential of India-EU ties, particularly after the trade pact.
Von der Leyen called the agreement the ‘mother of all deals’ and stated that both sides were working towards implementing it by the end of the year to expand opportunities for businesses and industries.
The leaders discussed cooperation across trade, defence, innovation, artificial intelligence, clean energy, sustainability and emerging technologies.
Prime Minister Modi noted that India and Sweden shared strong democratic values, the rule of law and a people-centric approach to development. He also highlighted the importance of close cooperation among democracies during a challenging global environment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Sweden for supporting India in the fight against terrorism and said both nations would continue strengthening cooperation against global security threats.
The leaders highlighted growing India-Sweden ties in defence, manufacturing, AI, health technology, green mobility and innovation.
PM Modi also announced plans for an India-Sweden Science and Technology Centre to boost research and start-up collaboration.
Ursula von der Leyen said the India-EU trade agreement would create major economic opportunities and strengthen cooperation in security and cyber defence.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said the agreement could generate thousands of jobs and deepen collaboration in science, innovation and green technology.
PM Modi’s Sweden visit is part of his broader Europe-West Asia tour focused on trade, defence and emerging technologies.
