PM Narendra Modi And PM Giorgia Meloni Reaffirm Strengthening India–Italy Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that the strategic partnership between India and Italy continues to gain strength, following his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

In a message shared on X on Sunday, PM Modi described the discussion as ‘very good’ and emphasised that the expanding relationship is translating into tangible benefits for citizens of both nations.

PM Modi noted that cooperation between New Delhi and Rome is advancing steadily across multiple sectors, reflecting the positive trajectory since the bilateral relationship was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2023.

Detailing the key themes of the meeting, the Prime Minister said both leaders reviewed avenues for collaboration in trade, investment, defence, innovation, artificial intelligence, space and education.

He also announced a new joint initiative aimed at combating the financing of terrorism, calling it a ‘necessary and timely effort’ to strengthen global security networks.

PM Modi reiterated the consistent progress in India–Italy engagement, highlighting how both nations are now expanding cooperation in clean energy, mobility partnerships, industrial collaboration and high-level political dialogue, even though they did not disclose specific agreements.

Strengthened Diplomatic Exchanges in Recent Years

The two leaders have held multiple interactions over the past two years on both bilateral and multilateral platforms, enhancing visibility and stability in the relationship.

Their most recent encounter before Johannesburg took place at the G7 Summit in Canada’s Kananaskis in June, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties.

Italian Prime Minister Meloni has been among the European leaders maintaining regular engagement with India, participating in discussions on global economic issues, regional developments and multilateral cooperation.

PM Modi has previously praised Meloni as an ‘extraordinary political leader’, highlighting her blend of ‘ideas and heart’.

India and Italy have been working to diversify trade, strengthen private-sector partnerships and encourage new investments.

Recent ministerial talks have explored cooperation in semiconductors, digital innovation, agriculture and infrastructure, areas seen as pivotal for future growth.

The warm exchange between the two leaders ahead of the G20 Summit’s opening session in Johannesburg underscored the strong rapport shaping the modern India–Italy relationship.

PM Modi’s latest remarks reflect confidence in the direction of the partnership, with both sides signalling continued momentum.
