Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to the people of Mauritius on their National Day on Wednesday, expressing his enthusiasm for being part of the celebrations.
Sharing key moments from his visit, PM Modi reflected on the warm welcome he received and his discussions with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
Earlier on Tuesday, both leaders held a meeting to review bilateral ties and explore ways to strengthen their partnership.
“Had an excellent meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam this evening. Thanked him for inviting me to be a part of the National Day celebrations of Mauritius and also his special gestures through my visit. I expressed gratitude to PM Ramgoolam for Mauritius’ decision to confer upon me the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X.
PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment as a trusted development partner of Mauritius and emphasized working together to advance the interests of the Global South.
Later, PM Modi attended a banquet dinner hosted by PM Ramgoolam, where he spoke about the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
“Our relationship has no boundaries, and together, we will continue working for the well-being of our people and regional security,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated.
Recalling his previous visit to Mauritius, PM Modi highlighted the SAGAR vision, which focuses on maritime cooperation, regional security, and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening ties with its ‘close maritime neighbor and important partner’ in the Indian Ocean.
In a significant gesture, Mauritius announced its highest civilian honor, ‘The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean’, for PM Modi.
This makes him the first Indian recipient of the award and marks the 21st international recognition bestowed upon him.
PM Modi also met Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool at the State House, where he personally handed over OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) cards to the President and First Lady Brinda Gokhool.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both leaders discussed ways to further enhance bilateral ties, emphasizing the historical and cultural bonds that connect the two nations.
PM Modi’s visit underscores India’s strong and enduring partnership with Mauritius, built on shared values and a commitment to mutual progress.
