In a significant move, the Sydney Masonic Centre took decisive action by canceling the highly controversial Khalistan Referendum event scheduled for June 4, two days ahead of the anniversary of Operation Bluestar, an army action taken to flush out militants from Golden Temple in June 1984. The decision comes in response to numerous complaints and alarming threats that raised grave concerns over public safety and the associated security risks tied to the Khalistani event.
The cancellation of the program reflects the commitment of both Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Albanese to taking strict action against divisive forces. Notably, in the recent past, the Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, during a media briefing in Sydney, emphasized the importance of the strong bilateral ties between India and Australia. He made it clear that attacks on temples or the activities of separatist elements in Australia would not jeopardize the friendly relations between the two countries.
