PM Narendra Modi will address the G7 Outreach Session on Tuesday, as India cements its position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
PM Modi’s participation in the session underscores India’s rising economic and geopolitical clout on the global stage.
According to the latest International Monetary Fund (IMF) data, India is projected to achieve a 6.2% GDP growth in 2025, the highest among all major economies.
In contrast, the United States is expected to grow by 1.8%, followed by Canada (1.4%), the UK (1.1%), Japan and France (0.6%), Italy (0.4%), and Germany (0%).
These figures highlight India’s economic resilience amid a global slowdown.
India also outshone G7 nations in industrial growth, clocking a 5.9% increase in 2024.
Comparatively, Canada recorded 1.2%, the US 0.9%, the UK 0.7%, France 0.5%, Italy 0.3%, Japan 0.2%, while Germany reported a -0.1% contraction in industrial output.
India’s services sector continues to demonstrate strength, with a Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) reading of 60.1, the highest among major global economies.
In contrast, the highest G7 PMI figure comes from Italy at 54.1, followed by France (53.1), the UK (52.9), Germany (52.9), the US (51.4), and Canada (51.1).
France also appeared again at the bottom with 50.1, just above the neutral 50-point mark that separates growth from contraction.
Though not a permanent member of the G7 bloc, India continues to receive invitations to G7 summits, reflecting its growing influence in global economics and politics.
Prime Minister Modi will focus on economic cooperation, sustainable development, and technology partnerships during his address at the Outreach Session.
The Prime Minister arrived in Canada on Tuesday after completing a visit to Cyprus.
During the summit, he will hold bilateral meetings with several G7 leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Prime Minister Modi will depart for Croatia on Tuesday evening, continuing his multi-nation tour.
