Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the closing session of the second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine on Friday, reinforcing India’s growing role in shaping a globally recognised, evidence-driven traditional medicine framework.
Held over three days at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital, the summit has brought together international policymakers, scientists, practitioners and Indigenous knowledge holders to deliberate on the future of traditional medicine within contemporary health systems.
The event reflects India’s expanding leadership in promoting holistic and people-centric healthcare models rooted in ancient knowledge systems.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi has consistently advocated the integration of traditional medicine and the Indian Knowledge System into mainstream healthcare. He emphasises achieving this through research, standardisation, and international collaboration.
In his address, he is expected to highlight how aligning traditional practices with modern scientific validation can ensure wider global acceptance.
Launch of Key Ayush Initiatives
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister will unveil several significant initiatives aimed at strengthening the Ayush ecosystem. These include the My Ayush Integrated Services Portal (MAISP), designed as a comprehensive digital platform for the sector.
The Ayush Mark is envisioned as a global quality assurance benchmark for Ayush products and services.
PM Modi will also release a publication titled ‘From Roots to Global Reach: 11 Years of Transformation in Ayush’.
The book documents India’s progress in the field over the past decade. He will also release a WHO technical report on training in Yoga.
Highlighting the international resonance of India’s traditional medicine legacy, the Prime Minister will release a commemorative postal stamp. The stamp is dedicated to Ashwagandha.
He will also felicitate the recipients of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion and Development of Yoga for the years 2021–2025. This acknowledges their sustained efforts to popularise Yoga worldwide.
Additionally, PM Modi will visit the Traditional Medicine Discovery Space. The exhibition showcases the diversity and contemporary relevance of traditional medical knowledge from India and across the globe.
The summit is jointly organised by the World Health Organisation and the Ministry of Ayush. It is themed ‘Restoring balance: The science and practice of health and well-being’.
The programme has focused on building equitable, sustainable, and evidence-based health systems through informed integration of traditional medicine.
