PM Modi: India-Thailand Ties Elevated To Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bangkok, Thailand, where he held delegation-level talks with Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

The leaders agreed to elevate India-Thailand ties to a strategic partnership, reinforcing cooperation in multiple sectors, including trade, security, and cultural exchanges.

Condolences For Earthquake Victims

During his joint press statement, PM Modi expressed deep sympathies for the victims of the March 28 earthquake in Thailand.

Offering condolences on behalf of the people of India, he wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and assured India’s support.

PM Modi highlighted the centuries-old cultural and spiritual ties between India and Thailand, emphasizing the influence of Buddhism and the Ramayana in Thai traditions.

To further celebrate this shared heritage, the Thai government issued a commemorative stamp featuring Ramayana mural paintings from the 18th century, a gesture for which PM Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude.

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Both leaders emphasized the significance of a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific, aligning with India’s Act East Policy.

PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to development over expansionism and announced the establishment of a strategic dialogue between security agencies of both nations.

In a gesture of goodwill, Thai PM Shinawatra presented PM Modi with the ‘World Ti-Pitaka: Sajjhaya Phonetic Edition’, a compilation of Lord Buddha’s teachings.

PM Modi accepted the scriptures on behalf of ‘Buddha Bhoomi’ India and announced the upcoming transfer of Lord Buddha’s holy relics from Gujarat’s Aravalli to Thailand for public darshan.

BIMSTEC Summit & Regional Engagement

Following the bilateral talks, PM Modi received a ceremonial Guard of Honour in Bangkok ahead of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, which is set to take place on Friday.

The summit will focus on enhancing regional cooperation among Bay of Bengal nations across various sectors, reinforcing India’s leadership in the region.

India and Thailand have elevated their ties to a strategic partnership, strengthening cooperation in trade, defense, and cultural exchanges.

The leaders also discussed measures to combat cyber crimes and improve bilateral security coordination.

As India and Thailand continue to strengthen their diplomatic relations, the partnership will play a key role in regional stability and economic growth.
