PM Modi Says India And Japan Will Remain Force For Peace And Stability

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India and Japan will continue to act as a force for peace, progress, and stability in Asia and worldwide.

He praised the partnership between the two nations, saying they are not only ‘close partners’ but also ancient civilisations, vibrant democracies, and leading economies with a shared strategic vision.

In an interview with Japan’s The Yomiuri Shimbun, PM Modi said he looked forward to meeting Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

He added that their talks would focus on strengthening security, enhancing resilience, driving innovation, and delivering prosperity for both peoples.

Strategic Ties Reach New Heights

PM Modi said, “I am delighted to be in Tokyo once again for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit. I thank Prime Minister Ishiba for his invitation. Over the past decade, our ties have scaled new heights after being elevated to a Special Strategic and Global Partnership. The Summit itself reflects the maturity and vibrancy of our relations.”

He noted that the meeting with Ishiba will chart the next phase of cooperation.

Furthermore, he expressed excitement about visiting Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture, a region symbolising resilience and innovation.

PM Modi concluded that India and Japan will continue to work together as a force for peace and stability in Asia and beyond.

Later, PM Modi and Ishiba held discussions during the 15th Annual Summit, their first since Ishiba assumed office. They were also scheduled for a working dinner.

This marks PM Modi’s eighth visit to Japan, with his last trip in May 2023.

People-to-People Bonds Strengthen

PM Modi highlighted that goodwill between the peoples of India and Japan lies at the heart of bilateral relations. He praised Japanese professionals for gaining respect in India. He also noted the Indian diaspora’s role worldwide in fostering innovation and economic growth.

Additionally, PM Modi underlined agreements under Japan’s Specified Skilled Worker and Technical Intern Training Programmes. He said these initiatives will boost advanced manufacturing skills and strengthen India-Japan relations.

PM Modi arrived in Tokyo on Friday morning. Officials and the Indian community welcomed him with cultural performances and cheers.

He lauded their efforts to preserve cultural roots while contributing meaningfully to Japanese society.

After Japan, PM Modi will travel to Tianjin, China, to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit from 31 August to 1 September.
