Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the warm reception he received upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro on Monday. Sharing a video on his social media platform X, PM Modi highlighted the vibrant welcome by the Indian community, who greeted him with traditional songs, dances, and Indian flags.

In his post, the Prime Minister remarked, “A celebration of Indian culture in Brazil! Gratitude for a memorable welcome in Rio de Janeiro…” He also shared pictures from the event, showcasing the enthusiastic diaspora. Some attendees sought his autograph, which he graciously signed.

PM Modi reflected on the moment, writing, “Deeply touched by the warm and lively welcome from the Indian community upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro. Their energy reflects the affection that binds us across continents.”

Engagement at the G20 Summit

PM Modi is in Rio de Janeiro to participate in the G20 Summit, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. India, a pivotal member of the G20 Troika alongside Brazil and South Africa, continues to play an active role in shaping discussions on global issues.

During the summit, PM Modi will present India’s positions on key global concerns, building upon the achievements of the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration 4 U and the Voice of the Global South Summits, which were hosted by India in recent years.

Ahead of the event, PM Modi posted, “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to take part in the G20 Summit. I look forward to the Summit deliberations and fruitful talks with various world leaders.”

On the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral discussions with several global leaders, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

First Visit to Guyana by an Indian PM Since 1968

Following the G20 Summit, PM Modi will travel to Georgetown, Guyana, marking the first visit to the nation by an Indian Prime Minister in over five decades. Invited by Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the visit from November 19-21 will focus on enhancing bilateral ties.

During his stay, PM Modi will hold high-level meetings, address the Guyanese Parliament, and engage with the Indian diaspora. He will also participate in the Second CARICOM-India Summit, strengthening India’s ties with member countries in the Caribbean.

President Ali, who visited India last year as the Chief Guest at the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, was conferred the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman. The MEA noted that the summit aims to deepen India’s historical and cultural bonds with the CARICOM region.

PM Modi’s journey from Nigeria to Brazil and then Guyana underscores India’s growing diplomatic engagement across continents, reflecting its commitment to fostering global partnerships.
