Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’, Seychelles’ highest honour for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development, during his official State Visit to the island nation.
The award acknowledges his consistent efforts to promote climate-friendly policies, sustainable economic growth and environmental stewardship, while recognising his contribution to advancing global sustainability initiatives.
The latest distinction joins a series of international honours bestowed on Prime Minister Modi for his work in environmental protection and sustainable development.
In May this year, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) presented him with the ‘2026 Agricola Medal’, the organisation’s highest recognition, for his contribution to strengthening food security, supporting agricultural development and improving farmers’ welfare.
Previously, the Prime Minister received the ‘Seoul Peace Prize’ in 2018 for encouraging inclusive economic progress and international cooperation.
During the same year, the United Nations honoured him with the ‘Champions of the Earth Award’ for Policy Leadership in recognition of his commitment to environmental protection.
Prime Minister Modi is currently on a three-day State Visit to Seychelles to deepen cooperation between the two countries.
Earlier on Sunday, PM Modi met Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at the State House for wide-ranging discussions on bilateral relations, regional developments and global issues.
Before the meeting, the Prime Minister received a ceremonial Guard of Honour in recognition of the close diplomatic partnership shared by the two nations.
During the first phase of the visit, Prime Minister Modi presented the indigenously manufactured Fast Patrol Vessel ‘PS LESPWAR’ to Seychelles. He also handed over six ambulances, ten utility vehicles, and five laser-powered radial boats to strengthen maritime security, enhance Exclusive Economic Zone patrol capabilities, and support public services.
The initiatives reflect India’s continued commitment to expanding defence cooperation, promoting regional stability and further strengthening its longstanding partnership with Seychelles.
