Ceremonial honour reflects deepening trust
Buenos Aires City Chief Jorge Macri presented the key to PM Modi in a gesture symbolising mutual respect and growing friendship between the two nations.

MEA said the honour symbolised trust and friendship, reflecting PM Modi’s role in boosting India-Argentina ties.
First Indian PM in 57 years to visit Argentina
PM Modi’s visit marked the first time in 57 years that an Indian Prime Minister travelled to Argentina for bilateral talks.
The Indian diaspora welcomed him with chants, cultural performances, and flags outside his hotel.
The Argentina leg is part of PM Modi’s ongoing five-country tour.
Earlier, in Trinidad and Tobago, he became the first foreign leader to receive The Order of the Republic, the country’s highest civilian award.
He called it an honour for all 1.4 billion Indians.
Tributes to icons of peace, culture, and freedom
In Buenos Aires, PM Modi paid tribute to Gandhi, Tagore, and Argentina’s hero General San Martin.
At the Gandhi statue, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace and justice.
“His timeless vision will always guide humanity. Inspired by him, we reiterate our commitment to build a just and compassionate world,” he posted on X.

He also paid homage to Rabindranath Tagore, highlighting his deep influence on Argentine scholars and students since his 1924 visit.
“Tagore’s emphasis on education remains deeply motivational,” PM Modi wrote.

The Prime Minister began his official engagements by laying a wreath at the memorial of General San Martin at Plaza San Martin. He honoured the liberator of Argentina, Chile, and Peru, calling him a symbol of courage and patriotism.
