PM Narendra Modi arrived in the United Kingdom on Wednesday evening for a landmark two-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, with a major focus on signing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and deepening the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
He was welcomed with overwhelming enthusiasm by the Indian diaspora in London.
Members of the Indian diaspora gathered in large numbers outside Prime Minister Modi’s hotel in London, waving flags, holding posters, and chanting slogans such as ‘Modi, Modi’, ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’.
Many dressed in traditional Indian attire and danced joyfully to the beat of dhols played by artists dressed in cultural costumes, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere.
Sharing his gratitude on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Touched by the warm welcome from the Indian community in the UK. Their affection and passion towards India’s progress are truly heartening.”
Several community members expressed deep pride and emotion after meeting PM Modi.
One attendee told IANS, “We are so proud. I’m still in tears. You can see that my eyes are still filled with happiness and joy after shaking hands with him.”
Another said, “Meeting PM Modi made my entire day worthwhile. His initiatives, like digitisation and Operation Sindoor, have brought so much pride to India. His energy is infectious, and wherever he goes, people are drawn to him.”
A third member added, “The aura I witnessed was simply amazing. I never expected such a powerful presence. He looked like a saint. That’s why people admire PM Modi so much.”
Others echoed similar sentiments, describing the visit as inspirational and a source of hope for stronger India-UK ties. “He always brings positivity. I’m hopeful this visit will lead to great achievements for India,” said another community member.
The visit, scheduled for July 23–24, comes at the invitation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
This marks PM Modi’s fourth official trip to the UK. Before departing, he stated on X, “Leaving for UK, a country with which our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has achieved significant momentum in the last few years. I look forward to my talks with PM Keir Starmer and my meeting with His Majesty King Charles III.”
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two-day visit will include a comprehensive review of the CSP, focusing on:
PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral talks with PM Keir Starmer and will also likely meet King Charles III during the visit.
The Ministry emphasised that the discussions will also address regional and global developments of mutual concern and will aim to inject new momentum into the India-UK relationship, especially the long-awaited Free Trade Agreement.
PM Modi and PM Starmer have already met twice this year, once at the G20 Summit in Brazil and again at the G7 Summit in June 2025, and have held multiple phone conversations, underscoring the continuity of high-level engagement between the two nations.
With both leaders committed to expanding bilateral cooperation, this visit is expected to mark a major step forward in economic, strategic, and cultural ties between India and the United Kingdom.
