Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in Seychelles’ National Day celebrations in Victoria as the Guest of Honour, commemorating the country’s 50th anniversary of Independence. He described the occasion as a tribute to the resilience and achievements of the Seychellois people over the past five decades.
Sharing his thoughts on X, the Prime Minister said India values its close relationship with Seychelles and remains committed to supporting the country’s development and future progress.
PM Modi emphasised that the friendship between India and Seychelles continues to expand through mutual trust, democratic ideals and strong people-to-people connections. He expressed confidence that cooperation between the two countries would grow even stronger in the years ahead.

The celebrations included an aerial display in which Seychellois soldiers parachuted into the venue carrying the national flag, adding to the festive atmosphere.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam accompanied the Prime Minister during the ceremony.
PM Modi travelled to Seychelles at the invitation of President Patrick Herminie.
During the State visit, Seychelles honoured the Prime Minister with the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ award, recognising his leadership in promoting environmental protection and sustainable development.
The Ministry of External Affairs said India and Seychelles have built a strong partnership based on shared history, cultural ties and regular exchanges between their people. It added that Seychelles plays a significant role in India’s MAHASAGAR vision for the Indian Ocean Region and its broader engagement with the Global South.
The Ministry noted that the visit would deepen cooperation across multiple sectors while reinforcing the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
