PM Modi’s White House Visit: President Trump Expresses Warmth, ‘We Missed You A Lot’

PM Narendra Modi has reached the White House for his first meeting with US President Donald Trump. On their meeting, US President Donald Trump told PM Modi, “We missed you, we missed you a lot.” The two leaders met after five years.

Meanwhile, the two leaders will have discussions on a wide range of issues along with their respective delegations.

The White House Warmly Welcomes PM Modi

Prime Minister Modi was warmly welcomed by the White House on Thursday. The Prime Minister hugged the US President has told him, “It’s great to see you again.”

This was PM Modi’s first meeting with Trump after his re-election and they picked up their joviality where they had left off. Later, at the news conference, they referred to their long friendship and recalled their earlier meetings.

During his address, Trump said, “I am thrilled to welcome my friend Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India back to the White House. He is a special man.”

He then recalled PM Modi’s Hospitality to him and his Melania in India in 2020 and said he was happy to reciprocate. Trump also recalled the moments from the Prime Minister’s rally in Ahmedabad ‘Namaste Trump’.

US President Trump & PM Modi’s Formal Talks

Before moving forward for formal talks, Trump introduced PM Modi to his Cabinet members and nominees.

Firstly, Trump’s adviser Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, who had met Modi earlier in the day greeted him again. Further, Trump welcomed PM Modi at the West Wing lobby in the White House.

US President introduced PM Modi to other officials, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Moreover, the White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino shared a picture of PM Modi and Trump on X. Sharing on X, Scavino wrote, “Behind Scenes in the West Wing lobby — @POTUS Trump welcomes Prime Minister @NarendraModi of India to the @WhiteHouse.”

Soon, the Indian delegation including External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, and India’s Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra arrived at the White House after PM Modi’s arrival.

Furthermore, Senior Trump administration officials told reporters, “The President is focused on unleashing American energy to the rest of the world. He will prioritize India as a key importer of America’s natural resources to power their economy.”

With this, one of the officials said that leaders will also discuss how to improve the trade relationship. “That brings down our bilateral trade deficit and ensures an expanded fair trade relationship”, he further added.
