On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with artists from a Russian Cultural Troupe, who had performed during an event welcoming him to Moscow, Russia. A video of this meeting shows Modi interacting with the performers, inquiring about their career journeys and practice routines. He congratulated them on their impressive performances and concluded the interaction by posing for a photograph with the troupe.
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow before his formal talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

India to Open Two More Consulates in Russia
Prime Minister Modi announced plans to open new Indian consulates in Kazan and Yekaterinburg. Addressing the Indian community in Moscow, he shared, “We have decided to open new consulates in Kazan and Yekaterinburg to enhance travel and business trade.” He highlighted the first consignment sent via the India-Russia ‘North-South Transport Corridor’ two years ago as a remarkable achievement. Modi also mentioned the ongoing efforts to open the Chennai-Vladivostok Eastern Corridor. He emphasized India’s role in the 21st century as a ‘Vishwa Bandhu’ (Friend of the World).

Indian Diaspora Applauds PM Modi
Members of the Indian community, waving the tricolour, applauded and cheered for the Prime Minister with chants of “Modi Modi.” He stressed that the ties between India and Russia are contributing to global prosperity and praised the Indian community for enhancing the bilateral relationship. Modi described Russia as India’s “all-weather friend” and commended President Vladimir Putin’s leadership in strengthening the India-Russia relationship over the past two decades. His praise for Putin comes amid Western attempts to isolate the Russian leader over the war in Ukraine.

India-Russia Relations
India and Russia share a longstanding and robust partnership, which has been a cornerstone of India’s foreign policy. The relationship has evolved into a “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” since December 2010. Cooperation spans various sectors including politics, security, defense, trade, economy, science and technology, culture, and people-to-people ties. Both countries collaborate closely at multilateral platforms such as the UN, G20, BRICS, and SCO. Russia is the BRICS Chair for 2024, while India’s G20 and SCO presidencies in 2023 facilitated numerous bilateral meetings.
