Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison in Melbourne and reviewed the steady progress of the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both leaders reflected on the milestones achieved during Morrison’s tenure that continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation and people-to-people ties.
PM Modi said he was pleased to meet Scott Morrison. He said they held a meaningful discussion on India-Australia friendship.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said both leaders reviewed the significant advances in bilateral relations and recalled the important initiatives launched during Morrison’s leadership that continue to benefit both nations.
Following the meeting, Morrison shared his own X statement, thanking Prime Minister Modi for the invitation to meet in Melbourne.
Morrison said both leaders had elevated the India-Australia relationship to its highest level during his tenure and expressed confidence that bilateral ties would continue to grow stronger. He also revealed that PM Modi jokingly asked whether he had continued improving his Indian cooking, adding a light-hearted moment to the discussion.

The two leaders last met in person during the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Washington on September 23, 2021. They also held the second India-Australia Virtual Summit on March 21, 2022, where they reviewed cooperation across several strategic sectors.
Earlier, on June 10, Morrison congratulated PM Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.
In his X statement, Morrison described PM Modi as a ‘true statesman’. He praised PM Modi’s role in India’s economic rise, global standing and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Prime Minister Modi is currently visiting Australia during the second leg of his three-nation tour.
After concluding his engagements, PM Modi will travel to New Zealand for high-level discussions aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation.
