Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border terrorism, and called for zero tolerance and sustained global efforts to combat the threat.
According to a joint statement issued after their meeting in Kuala Lumpur, the two leaders agreed to counter radicalisation and violent extremism, combat terror financing and prevent the misuse of new and emerging technologies for terrorist purposes.
They decided to strengthen cooperation through information sharing, exchange of best practices and capacity building.
Recognising the links between terrorism and transnational organised crime, the leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in tackling organised crime through greater information exchange.
They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral counter-terrorism efforts, including engagement at the United Nations and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the robust defence partnership between India and Malaysia, marked by regular exchanges, joint exercises, training programmes and defence industry collaboration.
They welcomed the outcomes of the Malaysia–India Defence Cooperation Committee (MIDCOM), including the establishment of a Strategic Affairs Working Group and the Su-30 Forum.
PM Modi and Anwar Ibrahim welcomed India’s engagement in the ADMM-Plus framework and their joint co-chairmanship of the Counter-Terrorism Working Group for 2024–27.
They invited member states to Malaysia’s 2026 counter-terrorism table-top exercise and agreed to deepen maritime cooperation through naval visits and joint exercises.
The leaders also supported smoother mobility of workers and professionals, ongoing visa liberalisation, and stronger air connectivity.
