PM Modi Lauds Indian Diaspora's Contribution To New Zealand's Growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the Indian community in New Zealand for its remarkable contribution to the country’s development while addressing the ‘Kia Ora Modi’ event at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Saturday. He said New Zealanders have welcomed the Indian diaspora with open arms and placed their trust in the community’s talent, hard work and vision, enabling Kiwi-Indians to play an important role in the nation’s progress.

Pointing to the achievements of prominent Indian-origin personalities, PM Modi said New Zealand provides an environment where talent can thrive. He highlighted Nikhil Ravishankar’s appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of Air New Zealand and referred to Anand Satyanand’s tenure as Governor-General as examples of the opportunities available in the country.

PM Modi also acknowledged the accomplishments of cricketers Rachin Ravindra, Ish Sodhi and Ajaz Patel, saying their success reflects New Zealand’s inclusive approach and its ability to nurture talent from diverse communities.

The Prime Minister observed that India’s historical and cultural connection with New Zealand is evident in several place names across the country. He mentioned landmarks such as Bombay Hills, Coromandel, Calcutta Street, Delhi Crescent, and Amritsar Street, describing them as enduring reminders of the close relationship shared by the two nations.

Prime Minister Modi remarked that while the Indian community has embraced New Zealand as its home, it has also preserved and celebrated its cultural roots.

PM Modi said New Zealand’s leadership frequently speaks highly of the Indian community during their interactions, which he described as a matter of great pride for India. He added that the diaspora has become a vital link in expanding people-to-people engagement and strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Sharing the stage with New Zealand PM Luxon, PM Modi said he was honoured to become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit New Zealand in four decades.
