Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined fellow leaders for a group photograph during the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He is attending the gathering to participate in discussions on key regional and international issues.
PM Modi reached the summit venue in Bishkek and received a warm welcome ahead of the leaders’ deliberations. His participation forms part of India’s continuing engagement with the regional grouping.
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi met Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Zhaparov for bilateral discussions.
The two leaders assessed developments in India-Kyrgyzstan relations and reiterated their intention to strengthen the countries’ Strategic Partnership. Their discussions covered areas of mutual interest and were aimed at giving further impetus to bilateral cooperation.
The meeting was among several engagements planned by PM Modi during his visit to Kyrgyzstan.
Before attending the summit, PM Modi arrived in the Central Asian country. He was warmly welcomed by members of the Indian community in Bishkek.
The diaspora greeted the Prime Minister with chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’.
Cultural performances by Kyrgyz people were organised during the welcome programme, while yoga enthusiasts presented demonstrations.
PM Modi was received at Manas International Airport by Adylbek Kasymaliev, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Following his arrival, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the reception and said he would hold bilateral meetings with several leaders.
