Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the India-Australia CEO Forum in Melbourne on Thursday.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expand economic cooperation and strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Albanese welcomed PM Modi, and the two leaders posed for photographs before meeting leading business executives from India and Australia.

The annual CEO Forum, operational since 2012 and relaunched in 2023 by both Prime Ministers, provides strategic recommendations to enhance economic prosperity and deepen commercial engagement between the two countries. It also promotes collaboration in trade, investment and other priority sectors throughout the year.

The Prime Minister will also co-chair the third Annual Leaders’ Summit with Albanese. He will hold bilateral discussions, meet Australia’s Governor-General Sam Mostyn and engage with key stakeholders across multiple sectors to further strengthen bilateral ties.

PM Modi will address the Indian diaspora in Melbourne.

Earlier, PM Modi received an enthusiastic welcome from the Indian community after arriving from Indonesia.

Despite the cold weather, thousands gathered outside his hotel, chanting patriotic slogans and presenting vibrant cultural performances.

The Prime Minister described the reception as ‘truly unforgettable’ in his social media statement. He thanked the diaspora for its warmth and unwavering bond with India.

PM Modi also praised the Australian-India Orchestra’s rendition of Maa Tujhe Salaam, noting that music continues to strengthen people-to-people ties. He appreciated a unique performance featuring Australia’s Didgeridoo and India’s Tabla and commended Ron Murray and Dr Sam Evans for preserving musical traditions.

PM Modi applauded a Kathak performance and welcomed the growing popularity of Indian classical dance across Australia.

Earlier, PM Modi said his Australia visit would inject fresh momentum into the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

After concluding his engagements in Australia, PM Modi will travel to New Zealand for the final leg of his three-nation visit.
