Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and other senior Iranian officials attended the meeting.
According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, both leaders reviewed the latest progress in bilateral ties. They stressed the need to broaden cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
In June, PM Modi and Pezeshkian spoke by telephone about developments in West Asia.
Pezeshkian briefed Prime Minister Modi on the situation and possible steps ahead.
The Prime Minister welcomed the understanding reached to end the conflict and called for sustained efforts to secure lasting peace and stability.
The leaders had discussed regional security during their March 21 conversation.
Prime Minister Modi is visiting Kyrgyzstan to attend the 26th SCO Summit and the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games.
Earlier, PM Modi met Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Bishkek. They discussed stronger cooperation in defence, economic affairs, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, culture and education. They further exchanged views on regional and global developments, including West Asia.

PM Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at his Bishkek memorial. The statue was unveiled during his 2015 visit.
“In Bishkek this morning, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue in the city. Gandhi Ji’s thoughts will always have an unparalleled impact on our minds,” PM Modi posted.

PM Modi met diaspora members, Yoga enthusiasts, academics, ITEC alumni, researchers and environmentalists.
One Yoga practitioner had, however, won a medal at the World Yogasana Championship in Ahmedabad.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Met a group of people who have a close association with India. This includes prominent diaspora members, those passionate about the environment, Yoga enthusiasts, academics, ITEC alumni, researchers and more.”
“Happy to see such continuous engagement with India. One of the Yoga practitioners was in Ahmedabad for the World Yogasana Championship and won a medal,” the post further read.
