Prime Minister Narendra Modi held official bilateral talks with Netherlands Prime Minister Rob Jetten at the Catshuis in The Hague on Saturday, with both leaders agreeing to elevate India-Netherlands relations to a Strategic Partnership.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation across key sectors, including trade and investment, defence and security, renewable energy, emerging technologies, maritime affairs and education.
Reflecting growing trust and shared democratic values, India and the Netherlands adopted a Strategic Partnership Roadmap for 2026-2030 to deepen cooperation across key sectors.
Both leaders noted steady progress in bilateral ties through regular high-level engagements, expanding business partnerships and innovation-driven collaboration, while highlighting opportunities for Dutch companies in India’s growing economy.
Prime Minister Modi and Rob Jetten also stressed cooperation in Water, Agriculture and Health (WAH), alongside healthcare research, digital health and food safety.
Trade and investment remained a major focus, with both sides supporting the early conclusion of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement.
They also discussed cooperation in critical minerals, artificial intelligence and semiconductors, while encouraging youth engagement through innovation initiatives and hackathons.
The two sides reaffirmed collaboration in renewable energy sectors such as green hydrogen, biofuels and green shipping. Educational and cultural ties were also highlighted, including an agreement between Nalanda University and Groningen University.
Prime Minister Modi additionally thanked the Dutch government for facilitating the return of the 11th-century Chola plates and welcomed cultural cooperation involving Leiden University Library and the Archaeological Survey of India.
Following the meeting, both countries signed 14 agreements and Memoranda of Understanding covering technology, clean energy, trade, mobility, education, culture and water management.
Prime Minister Modi also invited Rob Jetten to visit India, which the Dutch leader accepted.
