PM Modi Holds Delegation-Level Talks With Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev In Tashkent

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for delegation-level discussions in Tashkent, as the two sides reviewed the India-Uzbekistan partnership.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George were among the Indian officials present at the talks.

PM Modi’s formal engagements followed a ceremonial reception in the Uzbek capital, where President Mirziyoyev personally received him and exchanged greetings with the Prime Minister.

The visit has included several cultural engagements highlighting the close links between the two countries.

PM Modi attended a yoga session involving 52 practitioners from Uzbekistan and interacted with participants.

Sharing a video from the programme on X, PM Modi congratulated the practitioners and thanked President Mirziyoyev for promoting yoga in Uzbekistan. He wrote, “Uzbekistan loves Yoga!”

Six of the participants had represented Uzbekistan at the First World Yogasana Championship 2026 in Ahmedabad in June. Their participation in the Tashkent session further highlighted the growing interest in yoga and sporting exchanges between the two countries.

PM Modi arrived in Uzbekistan on Saturday for a two-day State Visit. He further expressed gratitude to President Mirziyoyev for travelling to the airport to receive him, calling it a special gesture.

“This is my fourth visit to Uzbekistan, reflecting the depth and growing momentum of our bilateral relations,” PM Modi said on X after his arrival.

The Prime Minister was given a warm reception by members of the Indian community in Tashkent. People greeted him with slogans including ‘Modi Modi’, ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.

PM Modi later described the diaspora as a ‘living bridge’ between India and Uzbekistan, saying its presence helps strengthen ties between the two nations.
