Mann Ki Baat: 12,000 Girls, 108 Countries And One Space Dream – PM Modi On Mission ShaktiSAT

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spotlighted India’s efforts to give young women greater opportunities in science and technology, citing the international reach of Mission ShaktiSAT.

Key Takeaways

During the 137th episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi said the initiative is bringing together 12,000 girls from 108 countries for training in space technology and STEM education.

The programme covers areas of space science ranging from satellite development to other technical aspects of the sector. It seeks to create opportunities for girls from India and abroad to learn, collaborate and develop solutions in science and technology.

PM Modi said the initiative could help many participants build careers in science, technology and innovation while strengthening India’s position in the global space sector. He pointed to the second phase of Mission ShaktiSAT, which was launched at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida on August 23, National Space Day.

Around 100 female students from India and other countries took part in the event.

PM Modi noted that students selected from remote parts of India are among those participating in the programme.

A key objective of Mission ShaktiSAT is to prepare a satellite developed through the participation of female students for a lunar orbit mission, PM Modi said.

“Today the flight of our daughters’ dreams is soaring from the earth to outer space,” the Prime Minister said while describing the initiative.

PM Modi expressed confidence that the students involved would go on to establish themselves in science, technology and innovation.

The initiative brings together participants from more than 100 countries and gives them exposure to practical aspects of space technology. It is to encourage greater participation of girls in STEM fields and provide an international platform for collaboration.

PM Modi said the achievements of these students could open new avenues for India’s future in space research and innovation.
