PM Modi Receives Ceremonial Welcome In Tashkent As India-Uzbekistan Talks Begin

On Sunday, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a ceremonial welcome in Tashkent ahead of talks aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

The two leaders exchanged warm greetings before the formal engagements began.

PM Modi will likely hold delegation-level discussions with President Mirziyoyev later in the day, with trade and investment, digital connectivity, defence and energy expected to be among the key areas of cooperation.

The talks will cover the development priorities represented by Viksit Bharat 2047 and Uzbekistan-2030.

PM Modi had said before leaving India that the India-Uzbekistan Strategic Partnership had made significant progress in recent years.

Yoga featured prominently in PM Modi’s engagements during the visit. He witnessed a demonstration involving 52 practitioners from Uzbekistan and interacted with participants after the session.

Sharing a video on X, PM Modi congratulated the practitioners and thanked President Mirziyoyev for helping connect Uzbekistan with yoga. He captioned the post, “Uzbekistan loves Yoga!”

Six of the participants are members of the Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan who represented their country at the First World Yogasana Championship 2026 in Ahmedabad in June.

PM Modi arrived in Tashkent on Saturday for his two-day State Visit and thanked President Mirziyoyev for personally receiving him at the airport. He said his fourth visit to Uzbekistan reflected the depth and growing momentum of bilateral relations.

The Prime Minister met members of the Indian community, who welcomed him with slogans including ‘Modi Modi’, ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.

Some women tied rakhis on PM Modi’s wrist, while cultural performances were presented during the community reception.
