PM Modi Holds Bilateral Meeting With Nepal’s PM Oli At BIMSTEC Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Friday in Bangkok on the sidelines of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the leaders reviewed the ‘unique and close relationship’ between India and Nepal, marking their second meeting since PM Oli assumed office last year.

Both Leaders Held Key Discussions

During their discussion, both leaders expressed satisfaction over the progress made in several key areas, including enhancing physical and digital connectivity, strengthening people-to-people linkages, and advancing energy cooperation.

They reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen the multifaceted partnership between the two countries and peoples.

PM Modi Shares Meeting Highlights On X

Prime Minister Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the highlights of his productive meeting with PM Oli. He emphasized the wide-ranging discussions on energy, connectivity, culture, and digital technology.

PM Modi also noted the positive outcomes of this year’s BIMSTEC Summit, particularly in disaster management and maritime transport.

PM Modi shared on X, “Had a productive meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Bangkok. India attaches immense priority to relations with Nepal. We discussed different aspects of the India- Nepal friendship, especially in sectors like energy, connectivity, culture, and digital technology.”

The Prime Minister further added, “We also talked about some of the key positive outcomes from this year’s BIMSTEC Summit, especially in areas of disaster management and maritime transport.”

PM Oli Expresses Gratitude

PM Oli, calling PM Modi ‘a dear friend’, expressed his appreciation for the fruitful and positive discussions they had. He also thanked the Indian Prime Minister for the meeting, underscoring the importance of the bilateral ties.

Taking to X, PM Oli wrote, “Had a warm and heartfelt meeting with my dear friend, Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji. Our discussions were highly meaningful and constructive. I express my appreciation for this cordial exchange.”

The MEA highlighted the importance of Nepal in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, noting that the meeting between the two leaders continues the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two nations.

The discussions between the two Prime Ministers further reinforced the shared commitment to strengthening the India-Nepal relationship across multiple sectors.
