Punjabi superstar Gippy Grewal, who is gearing up for the release of his much-anticipated film Akaal: The Unconquered, recently visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
Accompanied by Bollywood’s multi-talented Karan Johar, the two sought blessings at the iconic Sikh shrine.
Gippy shared the moment on his Instagram on Saturday, posting a video that showed him and Karan Johar inside the Golden Temple premises.
In his post, he captioned the video, “Kan Kan de vich Rabb wasda Aye #Akaal releasing in Punjabi and Hindi worldwide, in cinemas on 10th April, 2025.”
Ahead of the film’s release, Gippy spoke about the transformative potential of Akaal, a film that explores the complex, darker aspects of human emotion.
In a conversation, Gippy discussed how people often perceive Punjabi cinema as a genre dominated by comedies.
While acknowledging that comedy films tend to be the biggest hits, he emphasized the importance of showcasing diverse genres in Punjabi cinema.
He stated, “In Punjabi cinema, it’s not that only comedies are made—there are other genres too. But yes, comedy films tend to be the biggest hits, which is why it may seem like more comedies are made. But if a role like the one in Akaal becomes successful, it will definitely change people’s perception. They’ll see that tough, hard-hitting roles can work too.”
Gippy Grewal dominates both the Punjabi film and music industries.
His hit song ‘Angrezi Beat’ with Yo Yo Honey Singh became a massive sensation and featured in the Bollywood film Cocktail, starring Saif Ali Khan, Diana Penty, and Deepika Padukone.
